The year 2011 saw the 10th anniversary of the horrendous terrorist attacks of September 11th
2001. Al Qaeda’ s religiously-motivated murder of almost 3,000 people on that sunny Tuesday morning led directly to military operations in Afghanistan and then Iraq which together mark the longest ever military engagement by America since 1776. We are still fighting in a war that has already outlasted our combat in Korea, WWII and even Vietnam. Whilst the mastermind behind the September 11th attacks is dead-thanks to the courage and audacity of the US military and intelligence community-the war is not over, the enemy not vanquished.
